  • Meta has hired MongoDB CEO Chirantan “CJ” Desai to lead a new enterprise AI business, expanding its push beyond consumer applications into selling artificial intelligence tools to companies.

Desai will become chief enterprise platform officer and report directly to CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Meta announced on Monday, September 28. The new unit, called Meta Enterprise Platform, will focus on turning the company’s AI models, agents and developer tools into products businesses can deploy.

“I am very excited to share that I’m joining Meta as Chief Enterprise Platform Officer to lead Meta’s enterprise efforts reporting to Mark Zuckerberg,” Desai said. “This newly formed unit will focus on translating Meta’s AI leadership into transformative products for developers and businesses.”

Meta said the new Meta Enterprise Platform will include products such as Muse, Meta Business Agent and coding tools.

The appointment comes as Meta pushes beyond consumer-facing AI. Earlier this month, it launched Muse, a personal agent designed to handle tasks including shopping, travel bookings, email and payments. The company is now trying to build a broader business around similar technology for developers and enterprises.

Desai brings experience from several large software companies. Before joining MongoDB, he led product and engineering at Cloudflare and spent nearly eight years at ServiceNow, including as president and chief operating officer.

Zuckerberg said, “I’m excited about beginning this new chapter for Meta and looking forward to working closely with CJ.”

Desai’s departure also triggered a sharp reaction at MongoDB. Shares of the database software company fell 18% in Monday morning trading after he left the CEO role less than a year after taking the job.
